Many violinists spend years treating intonation as a sequence of individual mistakes: a note is too high, the finger moves back; the next note is too low, the finger moves forward. The ear becomes increasingly occupied with correcting what has already happened, while the underlying relationship between the hand and the fingerboard remains largely unexplained. The Violin Intonation System makes that invisible structure visible, so you can understand what is happening before the note is played rather than continually correcting it afterwards.

The Violin Intonation System is designed to help you understand why pitch becomes unreliable and how to build a more organised relationship between what you hear, how the hand prepares and where the finger ultimately arrives. Instead of endlessly correcting isolated notes, you begin developing a repeatable technical and aural process that can continue evolving with your playing. The System itself will also continue to grow as new material, observations and technical connections are added.

The Violin Intonation System was developed by Margarita through years of teaching, observation and technical analysis. Working with violinists, she repeatedly encountered talented and committed players who could hear their intonation problems clearly, yet had never been shown how the hand and fingerboard could be organised to prevent those problems before they occurred.

Over time, recurring patterns began to emerge. Technical elements that are rarely made explicit could produce remarkably different results once students understood and applied them. The System is intended for violinists who are ready to look beyond individual corrections and understand the underlying organisation of reliable intonation. You do not need to know exactly why particular notes are unreliable before entering. Identifying those relationships is part of the work.

Reliable pitch is produced by more than finger placement. What you hear internally, how clearly you anticipate the interval, the organisation of the hand, the preparation of movement, the relationship between fingers and the physical map of the fingerboard all influence the result before contact is made. This is why endlessly moving individual fingers after a note has gone wrong can improve the moment without necessarily improving the system that produced it.

  • Left-hand organisation, hand frames and the way different finger combinations influence pitch reliability.
  • ​The physical geography of the fingerboard and how to build clearer spatial references without creating unnecessary rigidity.
  • ​Interval relationships and the ability to hear and organise distance rather than treating every note as an isolated target.
  • ​Shifting, preparation and the changes in hand organisation that can destabilise intonation between positions.
  • ​How to recognise whether a pitch problem is primarily a hearing problem, a movement problem, an organisational problem or a combination of several factors.

The Violin Intonation System opens in November 2026 and will continue to develop as an evolving educational resource. Materials will be released progressively, with new lessons, demonstrations, observations and technical connections added as the System grows. Your enrolment provides 12 months’ access from activation. You can enter through the Self-Guided System or choose Private Implementation for direct individual work with Margarita throughout the year.
